More Info on Rama's Bridge

Bridges always seems to entice us. Here we have the Adam's Bridge 'Rama Sethu' the amazing bridge of our times.
This bridge is supposedly built by Sri Rama, the mythological hero of the epic Ramayana. This bridge has been one of the most interesting one 'whether this structure is natural or manmade'. The bridge is 30 miles long & separates the Gulf of Mannar (southwest) from the Palk Strait (northeast).

Indolink came up with this article:
Space images taken by NASA reveal a unknown ancient bridge in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka. The bridge currently named as Adam's Bridge is made of chain of shoals, c.18 mi (30 km) long.
The bridge's unique curvature and composition by age suggests that it may be man made. The legends as well as Archeological studies reveal that the first signs of human inhabitants in Sri Lanka date back to the primitive age, about 1,750,000 years ago.
This information is a crucial aspect for an insight into the legend called Ramayana, which was supposed to have taken place in Tredha Yuga (more than 1,700,000 years ago).
In this epic, there is a mentioning about a bridge, which was built between Rameshwaram (India) and Srilankan coast under the supervision of a dynamic and invincible figure called Rama.

But US space agency NASA didnot claim anything saying pictures taken by its astronauts do not prove the existence or otherwise of a manmade Ram Sethu bridge. And what had been taken was nothing more than a 30 km long, naturally occurring chain of sandbanks.
"Some people have taken pictures by our astronauts to make their claim. No position can be taken on the basis of these photographs in any way," NASA spokesman Michael Braukus.
"Remote sensing images or photographs from orbit cannot provide direct information about the origin or age of a chain of islands, and certainly cannot determine whether humans were involved in producing any of the patterns seen," NASA official Mark Hess had said then.
"The bridge was nothing more than a 30 km long, naturally-occurring chain of sandbanks called Adam's bridge," Hess had added. "NASA had been taking pictures of these shoals for years. Its images had never resulted in any scientific discovery in the area.
"The images produced on the websites may well be ours, but their interpretation is certainly not ours," Hess had said, referring to the NRI websites.
After Nasa, it was the turn of Indian experts to declare that there is nothing linking the Lanka bridge:
Eminent astrophysicist J V Narlikar, said he had seen reports claiming about the bridge, but there was nothing to suggest that what had been located had links with the bridge mentioned in the Ramayana.
"The Ramayana itself is not that old. Nor had human habitation occurred 1.75 million years ago," Sharma, an acknowledged authority on ancient Indian history, said.
D N Jha, professor of history at Delhi University, said what had been captured by NASA's cameras was a geological formation. The issue had "more to do with geology than history", since the claim was 1.75 million years old.

We have a few who claims that this structure is man made:
Geological Survey of India's former director, S. Badrinarayanan claims that such a natural formation would be not possible, He justifies the same by the presence of loose sands layer under corals for entire stretch. Corals normally form above rocks. He feels that thorough analysis was not conducted by Geological Survey of India before undertaking SSCP project. Apart from this a government publication from National Remote Sensing Agency, which was recently tabled in the Indian Parliament, says that the structure "may be man-made".
The highest court of law (The Madras High Court) in Tamil Nadu said that this bridge is man-made.
